In Ntozake Shange’s acclaimed choreopoem women from a range of cultures and colours gather for an open mic in the hopes that someone, anyone will hear what they have to say, that someone will be willing to take the weight off their shoulders. Inspired by the issues that women of colour face in society, For Colored Girls takes a stand against those who choose to belittle them and uses the power of voice and movement to come out on top.
