Imagine a cool part time job in a theatre. Now imagine you get paid to do on the job training AND you can see the shows for free. What could be better? Oh yeah, you get to work with US!

Lakeside Theatre has 6 frontrunner positions available to University of Essex students. If you’re studying at the University of Essex Colchester Campus from September 2013 you can apply now!

Frontrunners is…”the University of Essex’s unique placement scheme which gives students the opportunity to undertake challenging employment around campus and develop the higher-level skills they need to compete for the best jobs. The scheme is open to all University of Essex students, and offers paid, on-placement training.” Good eh? Their website has more information about the scheme and how to apply.

Here’s me waffling on about how great the scheme is. Ignore my hairdo, then read our big list of positions below. If you like the look of it, apply now! Applications are open until 12 midday on June 18.

Lakeside Theatre frontrunner positions

Arts Marketing frontrunner (2 positions available – on the frontrunner website placement list, this is listed under ‘Arts Office’ rather than ‘Lakeside Theatre’)

This is an exciting placement that offers the chance to be involved in the Arts scene on campus. Based in the Arts Office, you’ll create, edit and review marketing materials, update our websites, distribute promotional materials and help develop the University Arts infrastructure. You’ll also be a part of the front of house teams at our arts events which allows you not only to see your work right through to its conclusion, but also to experience the arts events we put on.

Theatre Admin frontrunner (1 position available – listed under ‘Lakeside Theatre’)

The placement offers the opportunity to gain experience in Theatre administration by working closely with the Theatre Manager. They will receive preparatory and on the job training, which will provide them with a good introduction to the formal considerations involved in managing the financial and administration process of a professional theatre. The Frontrunner will be using the skills and experience gained during the placement to support Lakeside Theatre and its on-going successful programme of events. The student selected to fill this role will learn skills that will be transferable to their study and to their lives and boost their employability.

Theatre Management and Production frontrunner Plus (1 position available – listed under frontrunner Plus Placements then  ‘Lakeside Theatre.’ Scroll down the page!)

To be a frontrunner Plus you must have completed any frontrunner position in the previous year.

The placement offers the opportunity to gain experience in Theatre Management and Production. You will receive preparatory and on the job training, which will provide you with a good introduction to the formal considerations involved in managing a professional theatre. You will use the skills and experience gained during the placement to support Lakeside Theatre and its on-going successful programme of events.

Young Company frontrunner (1 position available – listed under ‘Lakeside Theatre’)

The placement offers the opportunity to gain experience in running a youth theatre company from administration and publicity to planning, delivery and evaluation of sessions by working closely with the Theatre Director, Theatre Assistant, session leaders and support staff. You will receive preparatory and on the job training, which will provide you with a good introduction to the procedures involved in running and managing a youth theatre company. You will be using the skills and experience gained during the placement to support Lakeside Theatre Young Company.

Technical Theatre frontrunner (1 position available – listed under ‘Lakeside Theatre’)

The placement offers you the opportunity to work closely with the Theatre Technician in the delivery of excellent customer service to visiting companies, members of the public and student visitors to the Lakeside Theatre. You will be required to develop skills in all aspects of Technical Theatre, including Lighting, Sound, Stage Management and Set construction.  The placement will provide you with valuable experience working in an ambitious theatre with a broad range of performance arts events.

Art Exchange frontrunner Position Available

Our colleagues next door at Art Exchange have a frontrunner position available too.

Exhibitions and Audience Development Assistant frontrunner ( 1 position available – listed under ‘Arts Office’)

This placement offers you the opportunity to work as part of a small, dedicated team that delivers the Arts at the Colchester campus with the specific role of supporting audience development in the visual arts. This includes project managing audience surveys, interviews and analysis of our impact on target audiences. With our team’s support, you will have to problem solve and actively contribute to creating audience development strategy and targets for the future. You will also support our growing social networking activity that offers us a crucial strand of audience engagement.

You will be required to research artists and exhibitions that will become part of the ‘Arts on Campus’ future programme. You will have the opportunity to develop your communications skills through writing exhibitions texts, brochure copy and press releases in an accessible and friendly style. You will also develop high quality customer care, through working in our customer-facing environment.
