Same Sh*t. Different Time.
An MA Theatre Practice assessed performance by Jessica Ashley

“Remember, ‘Yes’ is the answer. ‘Yes’ is good. ‘Yes’ is everything.”
Change (Or Lack Thereof) is a fiery, feminist, dark comedy consisting of three short solo performances, written and performed by MA Theatre Practice student Jess Ashley.
Marilyn On The Moon follows Barbara, a 1950s suburban housewife, living in an abyss of homemade apple pie and white-picket fences. But Barbara has dreams… big dreams. She longs for more. Freedom, independence, and maybe, her very own microwave.
In Kids Aren’t Just For Christmas, a 20-year-old Uni student finds out she’s pregnant. Yikes. It can happen to anyone. And it does. She’s just lucky she still gets a choice.
Set in a dystopian future, Build-A-Baby explores a deteriorating world in which Humankind is critically endangered. In an attempt to save the future of Planet Earth, the MUM programme trains droids to produce and release a brand-new species – Newmans. They’re like Humans… but better.
Change (Or Lack Thereof) examines the past, challenges the present, and predicts the future. 1956. 2021. 2107. Tennessee. Essex. Anywhere. How much has really changed?
