Dramatic encounters often involve one character dominating another and this power base often shifts in the course of a scene or a play. Think how powerfully this is used in the work of Harold Pinter, and also in practically every scene of every soap opera you watch on telly. Actors are trained in how to represent this power struggle on stage but what about writers? How can an understanding of dominance influence the way you go about writing dramatic scenes?
Lakeside Theatre Writers workshops are open to anyone keen to develop their playwriting skills, whatever their level of experience. Workshops are reasonably priced and are now free of charge to University of Essex students. Led by the Lakeside Theatre’s Andrew Burton, each workshop explores a different theme and may be booked individually or as a series. Numbers are limited to 16 participants per session so early booking is strongly recommended.
