Little Gandhi

Tue 07 Feb

The documentary film Little Gandhi follows the life of iconic Syrian peace activist Ghiyath Matar, who became internationally known for his initiative of facing down violent government security forces with flowers and a bottle of water. Matar was a key organiser of peaceful protests in his home town in Daraya. While the documentary follows the journey of a young man dedicated to peaceful change – and the international attention his story received – it also reflects the plight of all Syrians in their long fight for freedom.

Little Gandhi is directed by award winning Syrian-American director Sam Kadi, who will join us for a post-screening discussion.

“The universal ideals and humanity of Ghiyath Matar and his fellow activists shine through the smoke of a terrible war that is destroying a country and shaming the world. It is a profoundly moving and disturbing film that was produced in extraordinary difficult and dangerous circumstances.” Ian Black, The Guardian.
