PIL: Unemployment and Inequality

Mon 18 Nov

Professor Carlos Carrillo-Tudela
Department of Economics

During economic downturns, the popular press typically initially highlights the increase in the number of workers laid-off and the associated rise in unemployment. As jobs become harder to find and jobless episodes lengthen for some individuals, the rise in earnings inequality within the population becomes more prevalent.

However, the news outlets do not provide insights into how unemployment and inequality are related and how to deal with them from a government policy perspective.

In this lecture, Professor Carlos Carrillo-Tudela explores the link between unemployment and earnings inequality and what could be the role of policy.
