Reporting Terrorism

Mon 11 Feb

Drawing on his recent experience as Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation, David Anderson [Lord Anderson of Ipswich KBE QC] will examine why terrorism is unique among crimes – and why the coverage of terrorism places special responsibilities on journalists.

His lecture will examine the perception and the reality of the terrorist threat, before turning to the legal risks posed to journalists reporting on terrorism, the use made by terrorist sympathisers of media and social media, and some of the dilemmas that need to be confronted by journalists working in this field.

Tim Fenton, [Director of Journalism], will respond before opening the subject for discussion
