Professor John Bartle, Department of Government
Democracy is supposed to be uniquely virtuous because it is the only system in which there is a necessary relationship between public opinion and public policy. Professor Bartle will examine what we know about the nature and origins of public opinion. More importantly he will also consider what we do not know about public opinion and raise questions about the academic study of this most important of concepts.
